Peer Review

An essential component of the course is you writing your research articles based on your own research. Your drafted text will be the main source of learning throughout the course through personal goal setting (what aspect of your text do you want to improve, what part of your text do you need to write up, etc.), reflection (identify aspects of your text to textual features, rhetorical moves and steps, and disciplinary standards), and peer review (critical and constructive feedback of real audiences and readers).

It is specifically the last step, peer review, which is identified as an effective strategy for personal reflection and learning (often reviewing other texts will teach you more about your writing than the writing itself). In this section, we will recommend a specific procedure for effective peer review. The section is broken as follows:

  1. What is an effective peer review process?
  2. How do we elicit (as author) and give (as reviewer) a good peer review?
  3. Peer feedback and Writing Group meetings.
  4. What do you do with peer review once you have received it?
